Harmony With Nature for better health and a better world

Bill (my husband) and I were out doing some sprints recently. We were inspired by a video we watched talking about how high intensity spurts of excercise, cause the body to burn lots more calories that the usual 2 mile jogs we do.

So, we had been doing this for a couple of weeks and were getting in better wind shape. We also, made sure we warmed up before we started. (A lot of good that did.) Anyway, on sprint number 10 Bill let out a yell and hit the ground. Luckily we were sprinting on grass. I ran up to him as he was grabing his leg in pain. I was hoping it was just a cramp like he's had before, but it wasn't. He lay there knowing it was something worse.

We headed to sports medicine clinic the next day to find out he had a sprain tendon on his upper hamstring. So technically, his injury isn't a hamstring pull, which I would call more of a muscle pull. The doc saw him all of 5 minutes and we were out of there with $200 less in our bank account.

I make a point about cost because we don't have any insurance and do a lot of our own research for ways to heal ourselves. That might sound like living on the edge to a lot of people, but I would just counter and say if you are eating the standard american diet, you are living more on the edge than we are :-)

Back to the injury. So we go online and find out the best methods for healing a hamstring pull or hamstring tendon pull. We had already decided that physical thearpy sessions would be crazy expensive. Although we did go to one evaluation session, another $127 to tell us a few excercises to do. Wow, we couldn't figure that out ourselves. (Sorry, I'm being a little sarcastic.)

Online we had found this unique hand held ultrasound machine with rav reviews from people that have used it on muscle and tendon pulls. We also asked the physical therapist if this would be a good thearpy to use and they concurred it would be. So, we ordered it for $249 total, knowing it would also be good to have on hand and knowing it would be a lot cheaper than having ultrasound done at rehab.

Upcoming post will cover our results using this great little magic machine. In the meantime you can read some reviews on Amazon.
